99 eviction hearings in November, December 2020 and January 2021

MetCap has been the subject of widespread complaints since long before the pandemic, with a history of frequent above-guideline rent hikes and an aggressive, neglectful relationship with tenants. This resulted in the 2017 rent strike at MetCap buildings in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood, in which tenants in 300 units withheld payments and eventually forced the company to scale back a planned rent increase. These evictions hearings during the COVID crisis include buildings both owned and managed by Metcap and tenants are still asking the company to negotiate with them collectively on arrears accumulated during the time of the pandemic crisis.
