Did you receive an N4 Notice of Eviction?

  1. Do Not Move Out

The landlord does not have the authority to evict you. To evict a tenant the landlord must file with the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB). An N4 Notice, even though it looks scary, does not mean you are being evicted. There is plenty you can do.

2. Check for a Hearing Date

If you’ve received an N4, you should call the LTB to ask whether your landlord has filed for a hearing against you, and what your file number is. WRITE IT DOWN. Using this file number you should regularly check the status of your file on the LTB website to see if a hearing has been scheduled: https://tribunalsontario.ca/ltb/check-file-status

3. Organize!

Reach out to your neighbours. Taking collective action against your landlord is the best way to stop evictions and secure better conditions for tenants in your building. Start by creating a list of demands with your neighbours and collect signatures through door-knocking or talking to people in the lobby. Build support for an action like delivering your demands directly to the landlord.

4. Connect

Reach out to TorontoKeepYourRent@gmail.com to connect with your local neighbourhood organization for support in setting up a committee in your building, and to connect with other organized tenants from across the city.
